Black Opal - Cabernet Sauvignon '08

Black Opal is from South Eastern Australia. Open the screw top cap and smell the beautifully sweet aroma...mmm, this is a good one!

Screw top cap??? Why, you ask? According to the Black Opal website "A screwcap provides a perfect, inert seal that allows the wine in each bottle to mature naturally and uniformly, developing its true personality. It prevents the wine from being affected by any of the cork-related flaws that result in unpleasant odors and flavors, such as cork taint or premature oxidation."

Fish Eye - Cabernet Sauvignon, '07

I'm not sure where I purchased this one, but it cost a very reasonable $6.99. Although I probably wouldn't buy this one again, it wasn't too bad and tasted better when I let it sit for a while in the glass. If you find yourself drinking this Fish Eye, don't let it "jump out at ya", let it sit and then go for it!

I was actually much more excited about the offer on their website for these "fish eye" light strands - I think they'd be cool hanging on the tree over my outdoor hottub. $10 for a 17' strand w/20 lights! https://stores.nationalpremium.com/fisheyelights/

[yellow tail] Cabernet Sauvignon

Bought this one at my local RiteAid, on sale for $6.99/bottle. It's a 2008 with the following flavors: blackberries, chocolate & vanilla.

[yellow tail] is everything a great wine should be. It's approachable, fresh, flavorsome and has a personality all of its own.

Hmmm...this one was quite tasty initially then the overwhelmingly "berry" flavor was too much for me, not loving it so much now. I think I need to finish the 2nd half of the bottle and report back.

Finished 'er off and same effect. First sips are very good then it's a bit much. Great for wine-tasting, not so great for continued drinking.

Night Harvest - Cabernet Sauvignon

This fine red wine was purchased at Farm Fresh supermarket in Oak Park, Michigan for $5.99.

The wine made from grapes harvested at night. We harvest at night when the cool air chills the fruit, concentrates the flavors, and preserves the crisp acidity of our grapes - making for a deliciously balanced wine. Uncork. Pour. And discover the magic of Night Harvest.

Dark and rich, the color echoes the full fruit aromas in this Cabernet Sauvignon. Black currant, black cherry, and sweet oak flavors mingle softly with supple tannins and a round finish.

I really liked this wine. I drank about a 1/2 bottle over the course of the evening while eating sunflower seeds, watching the Phillies put away the Rockies in game 4 the divisional playoff game.

This wine was not too sweet or too tart or too dry - yet the perfect balance of all three. I give it 4 out of 5 stars. My only complaint would be a slight headache in the morning but nothing too severe. Awesome wine for the price!

Here's a link to a review for the 2005 bottle, I believe mine was a 2006, though oddly enough, there's no year printed on the label.
